Loreto Siniscalchi came up big at the plate and on the mound in a memorable win for Hastings Community Little League. For the first time since 1998, the Canada Region Champion defeated Japan in the Little League Baseball World Series, posting a resounding, 10-4 win at Little League Volunteer Stadium.
The victory marked the first LLB World Series opening-round win for the Canada Region since 2012; and handed the Japan Region an opening-round loss for the first time since 1965.
It was a good day at the plate for Siniscalchi, who went 2-for-4, drove in one, and scored twice. He singled in the first inning and homered in the sixth inning. On the mound, Siniscalchi's 13 strikeouts highlighted a one-run, six- hit performance over 5 2/3 innings against Tokyo's Chofu Little League.

As a team, Canada tallied 10 hits, including three extra-base hits. Hastings Community Little League scored three runs in the fifth on an RBI single by Stefano Dal Sasso and a two-run double by Nathan Clegg.
Rin Ikemoto was the losing pitcher, allowing six runs in 3 1/3 innings.
With the impressive victory in hand, the Canada Region representative move on to face Asia-Pacific on Sunday at Volunteer Stadium in Game 15 of the 2016 Little League Baseball World Series.East Seoul Little League downed Pariba Little League, the Caribbean Region winners, 3-0.
